Barry Canin's photos of the Great Karoo
Edito : First a little biography. Eleven years old, when in the boy scouts, I had gone camping at Bluegill Waters, a farm belonging to the Canin family, on the Springs road if I remember correctly. Our patrol camped in an old army tent that smelt of hot canvas and we paddled on the farm lake in a leaky rowboat. When I first left home, as chance would have it I was 'adopted' by Bill and Bobbie Hepner and their children Marie and Richard and their home became a refuge for me. Then, when at Wits University I took part in a SAVS work camp to build a school on the Canin's farm. Marie and Barry got married and we have remained friends. Now to get to the point, Barry just sent me an invitation to see his photos of a recent trip he and Marie made with Marie's aunt Myrtle to the Karoo National Park, Graff Reinet and Bethesda.
So set aside some quiet time with a cup of tea or coffee and enjoy the trip. My thanks to Barry for these stunning pictures and the intense memories they bring back.
